Teaming up with McLaren Construction Group and Landsec, we recently hosted a site visit for fourth-year students from London South Bank University with Simon Leung, Associate Professor.
Together, we explored Thirty High (formerly Portland House), the iconic 30-storey commercial building a stone’s throw from Victoria station, currently undergoing a comprehensive refurbishment to deliver future ready workspace and first class amenities to SW1.
Guided by our very own LSBU mentor, Jorge Ribeirinho Soares, Senior Associate, and joined by 20 eager students, we dove into a presentation led by Jorge, Ben Paterson, Design Director at Parmarbrook and project lead on Thirty High, and Joshua Miller, Site Manager at McLaren Construction Group. From discussing the vision for the refurbishment to tackling structural design challenges, the students asked insightful questions, showcasing their curiosity and passion for engineering.
The highlight? A tour of the live site, where students witnessed the project in action!
To round off the visit, the students took part in a hypothetical challenge – one that they could need to resolve in their future engineering careers, whether on the consultant or contractor side.
The visit was a resounding success. The students were captivated, getting a glimpse into the heart of a major project in the making.
Huge thanks to McLaren Construction Group and Landsec for supporting this unique opportunity to inspire the next generation of engineers. Together, we’re shaping the future of our industry.
